A new kind of preschool

We are safely past our first birthday around these parts. In fact, we're past our third birthday. Three times over. We've moved on to bigger events, like preschool! And for my youngest, Baby Z, we're experiencing a whole new kind of school: Montessori. It's new to us, anyway, after having sent two through a church mother's day out program and right into public school.
There are so many things that I love about Montessori thus far. Baby Z is learning all kinds of life skills that make her more a part of her community. She's gaining independence that isn't afforded by other programs. And she's on the cusp of a brilliant academic career that she is completely ready to embrace. Also, she's napping again, which is fabulous!
But, oh, the independence is wreaking havoc on our home. Baby Z, it seems, would prefer to make her own decisions on EVERYTHING, and NOTHING I say is acceptable to her. The only at-home benefit to this new school so far is her easy bedtimes. And before you comment on how fantastic this education will be, or conversely how much of a disaster it's going to be, know that I realize we are but two weeks into the process and that it's a major transition period right now. I'm simply lamenting the challenge my sweet baby has become due to her newfound independence.
Coming from a public school background and attending one of the largest universities in the country, we recognize how different this experience will be for our family. We enrolled her in the program because we wanted to present her with the best opportunity we could, and believe this to be the right choice for now. We just have to make it through the rough seas until it's smooth sailing again.
