Does your one year old baby have hair on her head? Mine had so little hair on their heads at a year old that their stellar vocabularies were completely astounding to strangers - they looked so much younger than their vocabs portrayed. Today I cut Baby Z's hair for the very first time. Yes, she's 3+ and hasn't required any trims up to this point. She still has baby fine hair that has yet to develop into the mop of curls her big sisters have, but it was scraggly and scrappy looking in the back and a snip was in order. I'm not one to cut my kids' hair unless it's absolutely necessary, but taking her to my salon to the tune of $15 for what amounted to 2 minutes and 3 bites from the scissors seemed unnecessary. So right after her bath this morning I sat her on my lap, combed her hair just how I like it, and whipped out my trusty scissors. She wasn't all that still, but I soon realized the task wasn't rocket science and precision was not my top priority. What I didn't know at the time was the removal of those split ends and whispy strands would allow her curls to bounce free! She has a few honest-to-goodness sprials back there now, where kinks and bends used to hang. I had once thought she might inherit my family's recessive straight hair gene, but alas, she is curly headed like the rest of us! This is especially important because my #2 is fairly obsessed with straightening her hair, and if Baby Z had ended up with straight hair I never would have heard the end of it! And so here she is, my big giant three year old baby, who refuses to be called a baby anymore, but accepts the moniker of "toddler" just fine.
