Creative & Fun Ideas for Kids' Birthday Parties

Creative & Fun Ideas for Kids' Birthday Parties :
There are so many innovative ideas to consider when hosting a child's birthday party. Depending on your child's age and preference, as well as your budget, time allowance and willingness to be a do-it-yourselfer, you can throw just about any kind of birthday party. Here are just a few ideas to jump-start your thinking.

Host a Homemade Pizza Party

This party idea works really well for children who love to cook. Set the tone of the party by sending out "pizza slice" invitations. Then take the birthday guest of honor to a gourmet or specialty foods store to select an array of diverse pizza toppings like unusual cheeses, grilled veggies, spicy meats and special sauces. When it's party time, guests can create their own personalized pizza.

Host a Camping Party

This type of party can easily be altered to suit various age groups. For example, have a daytime party for younger children complete with a hot dog roast, neighborhood scavenger hunt and group camping tent for games and presents. For older children and teens, turn the camping party into a sleepover event. String twinkling lights around your backyard, and supply pop-up tents for guests to use overnight. Have a bonfire to roast hot dogs and smores, followed by flashlight tag and ghost stories.

Host a Victorian Tea Party

A Victorian tea party is a favorite with kids of all ages. Let your creativity shine with this event, which you can host either indoors or outdoors. Set tables with antique linen tablecloths, and serve tea in real china tea cups. Don't be afraid to mix and match china patterns on tables, as that adds to the whimsy and charm of the party. Have guests don decorated hats and cotton print dresses. Decorate with flowers, garlands and trellises to really set the mood.

Host a Barnyard Party

If you are looking for a fun party for younger children, consider hosting a barnyard-themed event. If possible, have the party outdoors to create an authentic barnyard environment. Scatter hay or straw bales (available from your local farm supply store) around a roped-in corral. Place tables in front of hay/straw bales, and cover them with red and white checkered tablecloths. If possible, arrange to have pony rides at your party, which really sets the stage for the ultimate barnyard-themed party.
