Overview

How Make Paper Birthday Hats : Overview
Why pay for paper hats from a party supply store when you can make them at home? The best part about creating your own paper birthday hats is that you and your child can customize them. You can even use this craft project as an activity for the birthday party itself and have each child create his own paper hat. The supplies you need for these can be found in any office supply store, and it only takes a few minutes to create these paper crafts.

Step 1

Shape of birthday hat.Shape of birthday hat.
Draw a circle with a pie wedge cut out to cover the entire sheet of card stock. Refer to the image for the shape.

Step 2

Cut the shape out with the scissors.

Step 3

Let your child, or the party guests, decorate one side of the card stock with the crayons or markers.

Step 4

Tape the two inside edges of the pie wedge together to form a cone shape with the coloring on the outside of the hat.

Step 5

Punch two holes on the bottom of the cone, at opposite ends of the hat.

Step 6

Tie each end of the elastic band into each of the holes. Put the hats on the guests' heads by using the elastic as a chin strap. Enjoy the party!

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Markers will work better than crayons to achieve a brighter color on card stock.
  • WARNING : Do not let young children use the scissors or single hole punch.

Site Manager - Melanie When it comes to first birthday parties, I'm a true expert in the field! I have three curly-headed little girls and have thrown two of them really great first birthday parties. There's a story behind the missing party...maybe I'll share someday!

I'm a writer/editor in Austin, Texas and in my spare time I loooove throwing parties - just ask my poor husband! Fortunately for me, I have lots of friends who love to come over, hang out, and enjoy the fruits of my party planning labor!
