Overview
First birthday parties are inherently special. Most one-year-old children will not realize what the fuss is all about, or be able to voice their opinion of a party theme. However, if a child is drawn to Spiderman's bright red and blue costume and loves to watch the web slinger coast from skyscraper to skyscraper, Spiderman decorations may be ideal. Decorating for a Spiderman-themed birthday party can be simple and affordable.
Step 1
Place a white paper tablecloth on a clean, flat surface. Use a thick, black marker to draw a spiderweb across the entire tablecloth. Start by making diagonal lines from each corner, then draw lines from left to right and top to bottom. Connect these long lines with short ones draping from one line to the next. Cut out a big number "1" from red or blue construction paper. Tape or glue it in the center of the web. Set this tablecloth on the main party table.
Step 2
Wrap canned goods, such as fruits or vegetables, with red or blue construction paper. Tie red and blue helium balloons to the cans, using the wrapped cans as weights. Set several balloon "bouquets" around the room. Use the black marker to write the child's name on some balloons and the number "1" on others.
Step 3
Buy a Spiderman poster, showing him swinging across the sky. Blow up a photo of the birthday child's face, either using a computer software program or by taking it to a professional. Cut the child's face out and glue it onto Spiderman's body. Hang the poster prominently in the room. Write "(Child's Name) is swinging by to say 'I'm one year old today'!"
Step 4
Hang twisted crepe paper streamers from the middle of the ceiling down toward the corners of the room floor. Red and blue streamers will match the Spiderman theme colors, but black streamers will work well, too, since they will resemble webs.
Step 5
Tie a long black string around the wrist of a Spiderman toy. Attach the other end of the string to the ceiling amid the streamers. Spidey will look like he is flying through the party.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Make a special red and blue iced cake (or cupcake) that the birthday child can eat while everyone watches.
- WARNING : Watch small children around balloons, as they can easily choke on uninflated or popped balloons.
