Overview
Choosing, preparing and hanging decorations for one child's birthday can be taxing. Planning a birthday party for twins is doubly so. Parents of twins realize better than anyone that twins are two separate children, each with his own taste and personality. Planning a party for twins can take time and energy, but for a special day for two special children, it is worth it. Take steps to make the birthday decorations exceptional yet with singular features for each child.
Step 1
Consider the twins' favorite characters, movies or books when deciding on a theme. Better yet, ask them what kind of party they want. Find a way to creatively combine the decorations associated with a theme. For example, if one wants a ballerina party and the other is into cowboys, hang cut-outs of ballet slippers and boots.
Step 2
Find out each child's favorite color. Decorate using a combination of these two colors. Twist lengths of crepe paper streamers in each color together and drape them from the ceiling or walls. Buy bunches of balloons in the two colors and hang or float them around the room.
Step 3
Use different takes on a single theme if both children want decorations using the same show or character. For example, find decorations with two different characters from the same show, or find two different sets of decorations from one theme. You may need to shop at two separate locations to find something different enough.
Step 4
Hang two "Happy Birthday" banners, one for each child. If possible, hang them on different sides of the room, or side by side on one wall. Try not to hang one above the other. The banners can be purchased or handmade on posterboard. Try to find or create a banner that fits each child's color and theme.
Step 5
Consider the twins' personalities. Will they have fun sharing the room and having their decorations intertwined? If this will be an issue, opt to decorate half of the party area with one child's theme, and hang the other child's decorations on the opposite side.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Bake or buy two birthday cakes, and sing the "Happy Birthday" song separately to each child.
