Overview
Making crepe paper flowers is as old as time itself. At some point most children will make crepe paper flowers to give mom on Mother's day or to secretly leave on someone's doorstep for Valentine's day. Crepe paper flowers have come a long way in sophistication and are used to decorate home, wedding receptions and baby showers. Here is a simple yet elegant flower that you can enjoy making.
Step 1
Use three or four sheets of crepe paper 11 1/2 inches x 8 inches for each flower. Stack the sheets on top of each other. Use all one color or choose different shades of the same color. If using different shades put the darkest shade on the bottom and the lightest shade on the top.
Step 2
Cut out one piece of crepe paper 6 inches x 4 inches for each flower. Lay in the middle of the stack of paper from step 1. Choose a dark color for the small piece of crepe paper. It should be a contrasting color to the larger sheets of paper.
Step 3
Fold the stack of papers together like an accordion. Start at one of the shortest ends and make a fold about 1/2 inch wide. Turn the stack of papers over and on the same end fold again about 1/2 inch. Turn the papers over and repeat this until the whole stack is folded up. Lay the paper centered on top of a 6 inch long piece of floral wire; wrap the wire in half around the paper and twist tightly to close.
Step 4
Fold the edges of crepe paper in half so the edges meet. Wrap floral tape around the bottom edge of the crepe paper twice. Continuing wrapping the floral tape down around the floral wire; when you reach the bottom wrap the tape back up the wire to make it a little thicker. Cut off excess when you reach the bottom of the crepe paper.
Step 5
Carefully unfold each of the crepe paper layers; pull each layer out and down slightly. These create the petals of the flower. Continue opening out all the layers of the paper. Slightly scrunch the petals gently to give a little shape to the flower.
