Luau Party Food for Kids : Overview
A luau-themed party is a guaranteed fun time for kids. That's because it caters to the season they love most: summer! In addition to leis, grass skirts and hula hoops, you'll need a kid-friendly tropical menu. Luau party food is easy to prepare with basic ingredients that can be found at any supermarket. In need of inspiration? Read on for some simple, fun luau-themed menu items that your young guests will love.

Step 1

Let kids make their own fruit kabobs. Cut up bite-sized pieces of tropical and summer fruits--such as pineapple, mango, watermelon, banana, strawberries, papaya, and grapes. Put each type of fruit in its own bowl so the kids can pick their favorites and put them on to skewers. If they're too young to handle skewers safely, let them create their own fruit salads instead.

Step 2

Make chicken or tuna salad sandwiches. Use tropical cookie cutters to cut the sandwiches into luau-themed shapes--such as palm trees, flamingos, and tropical fish. You can order these online (see Resources for a link).

Step 3

Modify a macaroni salad recipe by using fun shell-shaped pasta. Add in vegetables like cucumbers, snow peas and shredded carrots.

Step 4

Make luau smoothies by blending fresh tropical fruit with vanilla ice cream or milk. Serve with drink umbrellas, whipped cream and bright straws.

Step 5

Create an "ocean" dessert using blue Jell-O. Make the Jell-O, put it in the fridge. Take it out before it sets all the way. Add in some gummy fish or sharks, and then put it back in the fridge. Garnish it with whipped cream.

Step 6

Serve coconut, pineapple or mango flavored ice cream in tropical-colored sundae cups.
