Overview
While toddlers are active and can be loud, hosting a birthday party for them doesn't have to be difficult. One- to 5-year-olds are surprisingly easy to amuse and will gleefully show appreciation for your efforts. Once you select a theme, mail the invitations and choose a cake, turn your focus toward feeding the guests. With some insight into what toddlers enjoy and a little creativity, the menu might be the most enjoyable aspect of planning the party.
PBJ Pinwheels
Step 1
Lay out several pieces of white and/or wheat sandwich bread on a cutting board or other flat, clean surface.
Step 2
Roll the bread flat and thin with the rolling pin.
Step 3
Spread peanut butter or soy nut butter onto the bread. Spread jelly onto the butter.
Step 4
Roll the flattened bread slices up, similar to a jelly roll.
Step 5
Cut the rolls into 1/2-inch to 1-inch slices. Place the pinwheels on a plate or tray and serve.
Toddler Hors D'oeuvres
Step 1
Cut cheese and an assortment of fruits and vegetables into small cubes (about the size of dice).
Step 2
Place the cubed items on a platter, leaving a wide area around the border empty.
Step 3
Set pretzel sticks around the entire edge of the platter.
Step 4
Show toddlers how to eat the snacks by picking up a pretzel stick and spearing a cube of food.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- WARNING : As with any food, pay close attention to toddlers while they eat. Toddlers may eat too quickly and choke.
