Party ThemesHit the turf running and score a touchdown with a football themed party for your child. You might consider autumn to be the best time of year to have a kid's party with a football theme, but football is played all year by some. Football's popularity also makes it easy to find decorations and party favors no matter what month your child celebrates his birthday. Read on to discover a few kid's football birthday party ideas.
Cakes
Football parties are tailor-made for theme cakes. Any cake supply or party supply store will have a football-shaped mold in stock. Another way to go is to bake two rectangular cakes and place them side by side and then decorate them like a football field, complete with scrimmage marks and your kid's favorite football team names written in the end zones. Top the cake off using fondant to create goal posts and little football figures placed on the playing field.
Pinatas
There are nearly as many football-themed pinatas as there are football cakes. It is even possible to match up the way your football-shaped cake looks with a football-shaped pinata. In addition, there are also pinatas shaped like football helmets and even football players. Along with candy, stuff these pinatas with packs of football trading cards, football player figures, and for the big prize a football video game for the Wii, Playstation or XBox.
Games
Get an old tire and hang it from a tree branch. Hold a contest to see who can toss a football through it. If you have enough guests and enough room, play a game of flag football. Many football video games have a special setting where a round robin tournament can be played. These games are single elimination and can usually be adapted to be played within a short amount of time, allowing a final champion to emerge by the time the party comes to an end.
Football Finger Sandwiches
Instead of using a football-shaped cookie cutter to make cookies, make light sandwiches like chicken salad or bologna sandwiches and then use the cookie cutter to make them shaped like a football. The great thing about this idea is that you don't even necessarily need dedicated football cookie cutters; just find an oval-shaped cutter and it still will come out looking like a football.
Decorations
Most party supply stores and even some department stores during football season will carry large Mylar helium balloons shaped like footballs, goalposts, and giant number ones. Many of these stores will also carry blowup plastic footballs that can be hung from the ceiling. Pennants and posters featuring your child's favorite team and football players add the icing on the decorative cake.
