Party ThemesPeter Cottontail is a fictional rabbit associated with Easter. He's famous in literature and song. If your child has a birthday in the spring, a Peter Cottontail birthday party theme may be just the thing to take advantage of the spring weather. Celebrate your child's 1st birthday with a Peter Cottontail theme by making the decorations simple and sweet--just like that famous bunny himself.
Entrance
Let guests know they are in the right place by marking the entrance to the home with a large sign that reads "Bunny Trail." Use sidewalk chalk to trace out large rabbit footprints leading to the front door. String white twinkle lights with long garlands of silk leaves and flowers. Also attach these to the door frame. Toddlers will love stepping through the ornate doorway. At the door, you could even place a large basket with carrots or Easter eggs in them.
Party Area
Use streamers and balloons in pale blue, pastel pink and leafy green to set the tone for Peter Cottontail's spring arrival. Make cutouts of Peter Cottontail to hang on the wall; glue cotton balls to his tail to make it touchable for little fingers. Incorporate Easter eggs, garden vegetables and other spring creatures, such as chicks or ducks, to the decor as well. Always remember to keep decorations appropriate for the guests, who will pick them up, spit on them and tug and pull.
Centerpieces
For the table centerpiece, use the Peter Cottontail song for inspiration. Set out a clear jar of jelly beans (for Tommy) and a basket of "colored eggs for Sister Sue." Use silk or real orchids (an orchid for your Mommy) in a vase, and place a fun Easter hat on a hat stand. Better yet, gather several Easter hats and turn them upside down on the serving table to serve snacks out of. Look around at the dollar stores at Easter--there are lots of small rabbit figures or plastic toys. Use whatever you can find to evoke the feeling that Peter Cottontail was just there.
